For over 30 years now, the Kobler Family has been farming a variety of grapes at the Kobler Family Vineyards in Sebastopol and Dry Creek Valley. Over the decades, this premium Sonoma County fruit, has garnered 90 plus points for wines produced from the Kobler Family Vineyard. Now Kobler has turned these award-winning grapes into their own label - Kobler Estate Winery.

Three years ago the Kobler Family started this label; making a handful of small production wines, each deserving of an award. Finding another new winery in Sonoma County really shouldn’t come as a surprise; however, Kobler Estate Winery brings something new and exciting to the table… young blood entrenched within the old soil of wine country.

Many youth in this region are born into wine royalty, it's a given what they will do when they grow up … they'll take over the family winery and follow in their father’s footsteps.  This is not the case with the Kobler family. Each member of the family has been successful in a variety of fields but all have come back to the love of the vineyard.

When they decided to label their own wine, choosing a winemaker was simple – there was no other option than Bryan Kobler, Michael’s oldest son, who has already made a name for himself as a winemaker in the valley. Bryan’s passion for winemaking is evident at first sip.

However it was Michael’s youngest son, Mike, is the initial inspiration for the ‘project’ which has quickly turned into a full-time winery.  Mike’s outgoing personality and knack for a good soiree has made the introduction of the wines to premier dining throughout Sonoma County easier than most would expect and he brings that same personality to the tasting room.

Keeping the operation fully family run is not a complete challenge, especially when looking for someone to run the operation. Michael Kobler, Sr. looked no further than a long time family friend, Jaime Finch.  Jaime, who still maintains her own marketing and public relations company for more than 5 years, specializing in fine wines and spirits, was a natural fit into the family dynamic, considering that  “all of the kids grew up together”, said Kobler.

Kobler Estate Winery now joins the landscape of tasting rooms peppered on and off the plaza in Healdsburg.  There, you’re bound to find Michael, Mike, Bryan or Jaime behind the bar, proudly pouring their wines for all who come into the tasting room.  While the fruit has an established reputation, the young winery is already making quite a splash and was awarded several silver medals and even a 90 point rating from the Wine Spectator.  In the midst of its third vintage, Kobler is turning heads and raising glasses.

Melissa Sotak, Director of Brand Management at HKG Estate Wines and her husband, Chris Sotak (who works for Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards and Winery), recently visited the newly opened tasting room in Healdsburg and were quite happy with the experience.  “It’s always fun to give the customer a chance to experience something different.  It goes a long way in building a long lasting customer base,” Chris said, referring to the barrel tasting that was offered off the menu at the tasting room.

Melissa agrees, “What a delightful gem Kobler Estates tasting room is!  Located just a few blocks off the square, I know that this will be another must stop for locals and tourists alike!”
